The story follows best friends Thomas Shaw and Peter Barnett as they start their senior year in high school with opposite goals in life. Tom, the son of a widowed priest, wants nothing more than to discover what's outside of these hills. While Pete has an obligation to take care of his sick mom, and no other choice but to stay and step up. The year begins strangely when a classmate disappears, and continues to get stranger when a new odd girl, Lily, comes to town, and the pair start seeing creatures that are straight out of storybooks. Lily brings with her a dark way to make money and even darker history. After close calls and encounters, the new group is closer than ever, or are they? After an investigation of the disappearance, secrets are uncovered, and confrontations are made. Someone is not who they say they are. Someone is willing to do whatever it costs to get what they want, and someone will make a promise they can't keep.
